IR655 and Hormoz Island

My attention was captivated by the video of this environmental art festival I saw on Press TV on our sattelite a few days ago. I want to dedicate this post to the cause of trying to draw attention to the efforts of these artists, to show the humanity of the victims of this Iranian flight number IR655 who were shot down in cold blood in 1988. I also want to bring the location to the minds of myself and anyone who may be interested. I'm looking for the video online, but have not found it yet. It is so tragic, eloquent, artistic and beautiful. So I will try to find everything else that I can that is related to the area and the subject of flight number IR655. The artists, from various countries, who participated in the environmental art festival hope that their work will help humanize Iranians in the minds of non-Iranians.

The result of the American government's failure to issue an appology to the Iranian people for this loss of civilian lives was the reason for the bombing of Pan Am flight 102 over Lockerby Scotland!

Both planes were of similar size and passenger count.

Most of those who occupied Pan Am flight 102 were college students from Buffalo University who were in England for a student exchange program.

My own sister was part of that program. She left England two days after the Lockerby incident. Most of the students she flew over to England with were on Pan Am flight 102.

What tragedy a simple appoligy could have prevented!

I googled for it, and could not find any info about it...

Either way; the thought that a simple applogy could have prevented further tragedy makes these incidents that much more glaring.

Regardless of the American government being at odds with the Iranian government (and there's a long story to that too - of which I won't get into!) - it's clear the Naval commander was in error and an appology to the Iranian people should have been forthcoming.

It was clear to the military's own records that this was indeed a civilian aircraft! The BS that governments pull on each other and the people of theirs and other's nations angers me. For as much accountability there is in the military, it should go higher up the ranks! Yet it's doubtful that in this current course of history, we're ever going to see that happen!

I read the link you sent me. It seemed that there was a lot of doubt as to whether it was true or not, because of the anger the informant had towards the government of Iran. They seemed to think it is not impossible, but that he may be trying to get revenge for his own personal satisfaction. But thank you for bringing it to my attention.

I'm also disturbed by some of the things our government does in the name of the American people; us. Admitting and apologizing for our own mistakes is a matter of diplomacy, when it comes to the loss of human life. Otherwise the citizens of those countries will see us as the monsters they already imagine us to be.

I don't think any government is without fault, they are all made up of fallible human beings, and are, therefore, fallible entities. I just wish everyone would put away their guns and play nice.
